Combat Mission: Shock Force

At it's core, Combat Mission: Shock Force is a military simulation depicting a hypothetical near-future conflict in Syria following a fundamentalist coup d’etat. As in Afghanistan 2001, the radical new government's refusal to shut down major terrorist organizations and its' regional destabilizing effect, compel NATO Coalition forces into action.
The initial release of Combat Mission: Shock Force focuses on the actions of the US Stryker Brigade Combat Teams (SBCT) and Heavy Brigade Combat Teams (HBCT) as they fight against Syrian Army Infantry, Mechanized and Armored units. Combat Mission: Shock Force also features Unconventional Threat forces such as terrorists, spies, suicide bombers, IED's and other deadly tools employed in the asymmetric warfare of the modern day.
Along with the standard Red vs. Blue engagements typified in most wargames, Combat Mission: Shock Force will also allow players to fight Red vs. Red (Syria vs. Syria) and Blue vs. Blue (NATO vs. NATO) battles as well.

Game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC)

Activision’s long-running Call of Duty franchise has been the premier WWII shooter series since its debut on PCs several years ago, successfully usurping that title from EA’s Medal of Honor series. The franchise has been able to maintain a high level of intensity while still being an easy to pick up FPS. However, the WWII FPS-genre has grown a bit long in the tooth, and many gamers were wondering where the series could go for the fourth entry. Luckily, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will be a brand new direction for the series, taking it to a new level with accurate modern weaponry and brand new settings. However, skeptics should fear not, as the game promises to maintain the level of intensity that the series has made its name on while breathing fresh air into the shooter genre as a whole.
Call of Duty 4 is being developed by Infinity Ward this time around (Treyarch was the developer behind CoD 3). The game will be centered on a completely fictional conflict instead of mirroring current events (the series, the developers say, has always been about matching up two equally matched sides, which isn’t really the case in current real-life conflicts). It will take place in a variety of different environments, from a ship on the Black Sea, to Northern Azerbaijan and a Mogadishu-esque area.
The first area showcased by the development team was a nighttime level on the Black Sea. You and your team covertly engage an enemy ship, going from room to room taking out the foes aboard the ship, even killing those that happen to be sleeping.

The next stage shown was called Charlie Don’t Surf, in an obvious homage to Apocalypse Now, and it was instantly seen why. The stage opened with dozens of helicopters littering the sky flying over buildings in the Mogadishu-looking area (the only thing missing was Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries). The level then became an escort mission where you had to run alongside of a tank and take out RPG-toting bad guys. The stage moved fast and maintained the high level of intensity found in other games in the series. Another mission took place at the same area, only at night, where night-vision becomes a necessity. The level was crazy, with sniper fire and rockets whizzing past, helicopters going down in fiery tailspins and buildings getting blown to smithereens.
However, it won’t be all hardcore battles. The developers stated that while previous entries in the CoD series have been “cranked up to eleven” from start to finish, this one will have breaks in the intensity to allow for some missions with less gunfire (but suspenseful nonetheless). There will be some sneaking missions thrown into the mix, where one false move could leave you bullet-ridden.

One of the most exciting things about CoD4 are the vehicles. While many of them couldn’t be divulged at the event, the team showed off the AC-130. Inspired by a particularly graphic video that can be seen on YouTube, the AC-130 missions place you in the large airborne battleship for some protection missions. The vehicle is capable of massive destruction, laying waste to entire structures and groups of enemies like cutting through butter. Since the thing only sees in black-and-white night-vision, the only way to distinguish between enemy troops and your own is by the strobe flash that accompanies your soldiers; and since friendly fire results in immediate loss, this adds to the challenge and the suspense.
Graphically, the game’s aesthetic will be even better than the games that came before it, and should be one of the best looking games to hit shelves this fall. The Azerbaijan stage showcased an incredible amount of detail, with effects like bugs and a huge depth of field. The game will also utilize “God Ray” lighting effects with dust particles passing through light beams, specific damage points throughout the environment (you can shoot the tires and side-view mirrors out of cars, for example), and huge beautiful environments.

However, as great as the stages are, the character models are the real stars of the show. The soldiers look painstakingly realistic, complete with self-shadowing, high-resolution textures and fabric detail. Every piece of equipment on them will be a deliberate thing that they use on the field (including the aforementioned strobe to keep them from getting shot by the AC-130). The attention to detail is so deep, that you can even see the time on the characters’ watches.
The game’s multiplayer elements will also be very deep, giving players the ability to play 16-player matches and use a party system, where they can start off as a party of one and invite friends to jump in whenever they want. The most fascinating element of the multiplayer, though, is the create-a-class system. As you play MP matches, you gain points towards unlockable classes, and finally the create-a-class system, which lets you choose your soldier’s weapons, attachments and “perks”, which work as battlefield bonuses. There will be tons of different perks on the field, giving the player many ways to play the game and create a character that will allow them to rack up massive kills online.
Those out there tired of WWII should have cause for celebration, as Call of Duty 4 will give them a quintessential modern combat FPS experience. Whether you prefer to play alone or duke it out online, CoD4 is one title to get excited about this fall.

God of War II (PS2)

Kratos is back, he’s pissed off, and he’s ready to kick some godly ass in the sequel to one of the best PS2 games of all time.
Perfection is a word that should rarely be thrown around in the world of video games. Even games that are widely considered to be the best of the best like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Final Fantasy VII, and Halo 2 all have their own flaws that keep them from achieving perfection. The original God of War also was not perfect. But it was damn close.

God of War’s flaws were not in the gameplay, graphics, sound, or even story department. Those were as close to perfection as a game could possibly be on a console like the PS2. The biggest flaw with the original God of War was that there just was not enough of it. Not enough bosses, not enough enemies to rip into pieces, not enough meat to slice through with the blades of chaos, just simply not enough Kratos. The whole adventure was over in about eight hours and while those were some of the best eight hours of gaming history, it left us with an unquenchable thirst for blood that could on

That inevitable sequel is now only a month away and I’m no fortune teller, but just from everything that has been seen of the game so far, I must say that it’s going to be amazing. Turn the page for preview gameplay details.

Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground

Each year, the Tony Hawk series puts another entry into the extreme sports genre. Every few years or so, the series takes great efforts to reinvent itself with a new shift in focus. They’ve gone from stage-based mission objectives to story-driven single player play to open-ended skateboarding with a bit of a sand-box tinge. The next entry to the series will combine a lot of these elements together in one package, as well as add some great new features and a new mode that lets you create, edit and share your own in-game skating videos. Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground will be a community-centric skateboarding game with great personalization options to boot.
Whereas creating your own character is nothing new to the Tony Hawk franchise, Proving Ground changes the formula by giving you three distinct classes to take. If you make serious bails (taking out tons of people while you’re at it) and perform a variety of extreme stunts, then you’ll gain attributes in the hardcore class. If being a professional and taking challenges from well known pros is more up your alley, then you’ll build up in the career class.

Finally, and perhaps most interesting is the rigger class. This class is the most “sand-box” of them all, letting you build the environment and create your own sets of grinds and ramps throughout the world and photograph yourself doing it. This mode really will allow the player to make the world their own.
The class development system will feel a lot like Oblivion, as the course you choose to take will determine how your attributes build. You can mix and match them any way you’d like, specializing in one class in particular or two or trying to build them all up at the same pace.
The other big addition to Proving Ground is the new video editor. In the video editor mode, you can record and edit footage of tricks that you perform, splice them together and make a skate video of yourself. You can edit these, changing the camera angles, add music, and even put in effects and filters to give it an added visual oomph. You can post these videos online and show them off to all your friends.

Another way that the game is working on building a community is with Skate Pads. A skate pad is basically your skaters home, were you can add unlocked themes, furniture and of course, ramps, grinds, and everything to make your skater happy. You can even have friends over to try out your set up (online friends, that is).
Proving Ground is shaping up to be a solid title for the franchise, and one that seems poised to bring together Tony Hawk fans into a cohesive community like never before.

Games and Hollywood: A Deadly Mix?

More and more films are being created from video game source material, but why are most of them so bad?
Have you ever noticed that Hollywood is a bit behind popular culture? Think about it; people knew that comic books were rich mines of potential storylines, fantastic yet believable characters, and the kind of stuff that keep the special effects guys out of the unemployment lines for ages, but it took filmmakers a long time to finally make a decent film based on a comic book franchise. Sure, they saw the potential for an audience in comic materials - even the Flash Gordon serials of the 1930's proved that, but it wasn't until recently that film studios realized that there was an audience for comic based films that reached beyond a bunch of kids throwing popcorn at the screen and happily uttering swear words because Mom and Dad aren't around.
For just over the past decade Hollywood has been taking a similar approach with films based upon video game properties. Granted, when the movies first took a look at video games there wasn't a lot to work with. They started in 1993 by making a film version of the most popular game of the late eighties: Super Mario Brothers. Games were different then and anyone who's played Mario knows that there really wasn't a "story" per se (in fact the only dialogue of any kind until the end of the game is "thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle") and the scriptwriters had to craft one that would be at least somewhat believable - especially with humans (Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, and Dennis Hopper for those keeping score on IMDB) playing the principal roles.
Super Mario Brothers was, well, not good. It also did not do stellar box office business and it could have easily killed the entire concept of turning games into movies right there. As gaming progressed and games became deeper, more meaningful properties with rich stories and memorable characters the game industry started to do some impressive numbers. If there's one thing that studio execs can spot a mile away it's the potential to cash in on a popular franchise, so more films based on games were inevitable. It was also a given that said movies would probably be terrible.
Why do movies based on games tend to be some of the worst films ever made? There are several reasons, actually.

Xbox 360 Launch: Does Microsoft “Make the Grade?”

The launch went smoothly, despite system shortages and giveaway winners receiving their systems three days prior to those who pre-ordered.
System Availability Here is where things take a turn for the worse. Now, the first thing that I must say here is that system shortages have occurred with almost every home console released in the last twenty-five years. Quite simply, it’s a fact of life. I cannot penalize Microsoft for the shortage itself, but there is an issue that needs to be addressed. That is the giveaways.

I understand that the marketing department wanted to generate some hype and publicity for the 360, but quite honestly giving away a new Xbox 360 every ten minutes is just too much. This is especially true when you consider that Microsoft had to admit that they were delivering less than half of their projected number of units for launch day. The issue is not that the giveaway made so much of a difference in the number of units that would be available on launch day. The issue is perception.

For example: Let’s say that someone opens a particular type of soft drink and finds that they have been lucky enough to win an Xbox 360. That’s terrific for them, although they may never have purchased a single Xbox system or game in their life. What’s worse, he or she is going to get their system three days ahead of all those who preordered.

What’s the perception here? The perception is that Microsoft didn’t care about the cash paying customer who supported them when they went up against the PS2 a few years back. That means gamers who preordered a system and games months ago were left empty handed on November 22nd. The “giveaway gang” however were happily playing as early as three days prior to launch in America, and even earlier in Canada. The moment that Microsoft knew they wouldn’t be able to fulfill preorders they should have publicly stated that the freebie units would only come after they had satisfied the demand for all preorders in North America. I’ve been watching the message boards for the last several days and loyal Microsoft gamers are echoing these same sentiments. Sorry, Mr. Gates. The first rule of business is to do everything possible to take care of the cash paying customer first…FAIL.

Future Potential.

From a technological standpoint at least, the Xbox 360 seems poised to go toe-to-toe with Sony and their much hyped PS3. Microsoft’s edge lies in the online arena. With the virtual marketplace and ability to download ultra cool content, they will certainly find acceptance with the online gamer. Sony has recently announced that they will not have a unified online service, which basically means they are approaching online gaming in the next generation as they did in this generation. At this point, that seems to be a mistake on Sony’s part. Microsoft seems to have covered most all of their bases with the Xbox 360, so all indications are that the future will only get brighter…PASS.

The most important thing Microsoft can do is to get systems into the hands of those who have yet to get their pre-orders filled. They risk alienating the same gamers that kept them competitive in the last generation by trying to be too ambitious. I understand the temptation of trying to have a simultaneous three-region launch, but you have to take care of those who took care of you first and foremost. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can do just that by making certain gamers get what they want: a 360 under their Christmas tree. Regardless of the initial shortages, supply should improve somewhat in the lead up to Chrismas. Whether that will satisfy demand or not is another issue. Only time will tell.Article by Michael Harris.

Need for Speed Most Wanted Cheats (PC)

Road blocks:
In a road block never hit a police car in the engine, because it has more weight there. Hit the police cars in the backs were it has less weight.

Nitrous and grip:
Hitting nitrous torques the chassis back, giving the rear tires immensely more weight under the new acceleration. The end effect is that you will go straight. If you find your tail sliding out or are about to spin out of control, hit your nitrous. You will be surprised at how fast you will get straight again. This is a great trick in combination with Speedbreaker. With the correct timing, there is no corner you cannot take at any speed.

Avoid police:
Never respawn your car in a pursuit, as the police will always catch you

Getting the most money from selling your car:
When in your safe house and you sell a car, you will only get half of its list value. However, there is a loophole that works well for pink slips that you have won and no longer want. Take your car to the shop. Go to the parts area. Go into the body kit, spoiler, hood, rims, and roof air areas and set everything to stock. When you check out, you will see anywhere from $1,000 to $18,000, depending on what pink slip car you are stripping. Do not try this with performance parts. The shop charges you money for downgrading. Once you have stripped your car of all accessories, leave. Then, go to your safe house. Sell the car, and you will have made a lot of money on the side.
